What's Closed And Open Thanksgiving Weekend In Darien

DARIEN, IL — There's that unmistakable panic that sets in when you run out of an ingredient on Thanksgiving Day and you have to figure out what's open. Darien government offices will be closed for Thanksgiving, but some stores plan to keep their lights on. Here's the scoop on what's closed —and what's open— in Darien on Thanksgiving weekend.

Government offices: City offices will be closed Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and throughout the weekend.

Post office: Post offices will be closed on Thanksgiving, but will be open regular hours on Friday.

Indian Prairie Public Library: The library will be closed on Thanksgiving and will be open regular hours Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. On Friday, Nov. 24, the library will host Family Movie Day from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Garbage Collection: There will be no garbage pickup on Thanksgiving in Darien. Thursday pickup will take place Friday and Friday pickup will take place Saturday.

Banks: Most major banks are closed on Thanksgiving, but most will be open regular hours on Friday. Double-check with your bank before heading out.

Stores: The Darien Walmart will be open on Thanksgiving, but may have abbreviated hours. Other major retailers are expected to have abbreviated hours on Thanksgiving and extended hours on Black Friday. Select store will not be open on Thanksgiving Day.
