Where You Can Find Paczki In Darien

DARIEN, IL — You may not be able to pronounce it, but it's time for the deep-fried Polish confections known as paczki. Paczki Day 2020 falls on Tuesday, Feb. 25. Here are some places where you can buy the treats:

Aracely's Bakery

This family-owned bakery, known for its paczki, was founded in 1982. As one person wrote last year about the sweet treats at Aracely's, "I had one yesterday. Super yummy!"

Kirsten's Danish Bakery

"You don't have to go to Poland to get real authentic paczki," the bakery's Facebook page says. The flavors available are apricot, blueberry, butter cream, cheese, chocolate butter cream, custard, lemon, raspberry, strawberry, apple, cherry and maple bacon.

Paczki are available for pickup Friday, Saturday and Tuesday. When placing an online order, specify which day. The bakery has all the main paczki flavors.

The bakery has plenty of flavors, including raspberry, apricot, apple, cherry, blueberry, strawberry, peach, pineapple, lemon, cheese, cheese chocolate dip, prune, poppyseed, buttercream, custard, chocolate custard and chocolate covered custard. Orders must be placed over the phone. Be sure to speak with someone, as orders placed on voicemail cannot be guaranteed. Paczki can still be purchased on Fat Tuesday without an order. "The line is always out the door most of the morning on Fat Tuesday," a Yelp review says.

The sweet treats will be available every day starting Thursday, Feb. 20. The bakery will be open 5 a.m. to noon Monday, Feb. 24, and 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25. Customers are urged to place their paczki orders early.
