8 Train Cars Derail For 'Unknown Reason' En Route To Decatur

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said no injuries are reported as of Thursday afternoon.

DECATUR, IL — Eight cars of a train traveling east to Decatur derailed Thursday afternoon for an unknown reason, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said in a social media post.

The train belonged to Virginia-based company Norfolk Southern and was coming from Moberly, Missouri, before it went off the tracks near Madison, Illinois, at around 2 p.m.

Highway patrol said no injuries were reported and no roadways are blocked at the time. Representatives from the patrol told Patch the overturned train cars were carrying vehicles.
