Early Dismissal For Decatur Public Schools Wednesday Due To Heat

School officials detail Sept. 5 schedule changes.

DECATUR, IL — Officials from Decatur Public Schools said they'll release students after three hours of instruction on Wednesday, Sept. 5 due to the ongoing warm temperatures in the forecast. According to Maria Robertson, Community Engagement Director for DPS, this is to prioritize the safety of both the students and staff.

DPS said Pershing Early Learning morning program will dismiss students at noon and the afternoon program will not be in session, and any special education students without a Latch-Key Agreement who don't have an adult present at home will be dropped off at Harris Elementary where parents will be called to pick up their student.

Practices and game cancellations for middle school and high school students will be determined by their administrations according to IESA and IHSA heat guidelines, however all elementary athletic practices or games are cancelled.
