Vandalism On Decatur Hospital Bathroom Stall A Hate Crime: Police

Police said the message was written between Saturday and Monday.

DECATUR, IL — Decatur police are treating a recent threatening racial message written in a women's stall at HSHS St. Mary's Hospital as a hate crime, The Pantagraph reported. The news report said the message was written with black marker between 12 a.m. Saturday and 6:15 a.m. Monday, which is the day it was reported, according to Detective Sgt. Chris Copeland.

According to The Pantagraph, St. Mary's issued a statement tuesday, "At HSHS St. Mary's Hospital, we completely denounce any act of racism and were disgusted when we discovered this vandalism," spokesman Andrew Dilbeck said. "We immediately filed a police report and are working with the Decatur Police Department to solve this criminal act and hate crime."

The message has been removed.
