Video Shows Crash Involving Decatur Police Officers

Decatur police car dashcam video shows a crash Involving two Decatur police officers in squad car.

DECATUR, IL — The Decatur Police Department released dashcam footage of a July 9 crash at U.S. 36 and 22nd Street that involved a DPD squad car occupied by two officers. As seen in the video, the crash happened just before 6:30 p.m. Monday. The police dashcam video also shows the squad car driving into the intersection as officers had the green light, before being hit by a pickup truck traveling on U.S. 36.

According to Herald and Review, Decatur Police Lieutenant Shannon Seal said that a 32-year-old female officer was injured, but treated and released form the hospital Monday night, while the driver, a 26-year-old male officer, was burned from the airbag deployment during the crash.

Seal had also told the news source the truck driver admitted to using a cellphone before the crash, and was cited for disobeying a traffic signal, driving without a valid driver's license and use of an electronic communication device while driving.

Police say the officers will be back to work soon, but thankfully no one was seriously injured.
