5-Car Highway Crash Near Deerfield Sends Florida Man To Hospital

The 68-year-old sustained life-threatening injuries from the Thursday crash on Interstate 94.

DEERFIELD, IL — A Florida man was hospitalized following a five-car crash Thursday on Interstate 94 near Deerfield. The accident happened at around 5:18 p.m. on the ramp from Lake-Cook Rad to westbound I-94, according to Illinois State Police.

The 68-year-old resident of North Fort Myers, who was driving a 2002 Silver Ford Explorer Sport Trac XL, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the Ford Explorer side-swiped three other cars for unknown reasons. It then hit the rear of a fourth car, before traveling until it struck the left wall and rolled over onto its roof.

The drivers of the other cars reside in Grayslake, Gurnee and Ingleside.

The right lane (lane 4) was temporarily shut down for the traffic crash investigation, but traffic was still able to flow onto the highway, according to police. No further information is available.
