BANNOCKBURN, IL — A contemporary mansion that is described as vacation getaway on Chicago's North Shore recently fetched the highest sales price in Bannockburn since 2007 despite selling for nearly 4 million than the sellers were originally seeking.

The 3000-square foot home, located at 2500 Telegraph Rd, sold on May 3 for $3.55 million, Crain's Chicago reported this week. The sellers, Glen and Wendy Miller, accepted the price they did, which was a 47 percent reduction from when they listed the home for $7.5 million last August, Crain's reported. According to Lake County tax records, the tax bill for the home in 2019 was $12,215.78.

The unique angled home, which is highlighted by its stainless steel and glass features, is situated on 5.5 acres and was designed by Dirk Denison and built in 2010.

"Denison and the homeowner's visions came to life by creating ways for the architecture and landscape to interact," the original listing on realtor.com reads. "The house features a strong geometric roof and interior ceiling design; and floor to ceiling windows for maximum views."

The Millers told Crain's that although the final sales price came in almost $4 million than they were originally asking last year, they accepted the offer because they were ready to downsize.

“That’s what the market was willing to pay,” Glen Miller told Crain's.

The sale of the price was just shy of the 2007 sale of a home on Hilltop Lane that sold for $4 million but later sold years later for just $2.5 million, Crain's reported.

The home has 6 1/2 bathrooms, a chef's kitchen, a home spa, exercise room, a great room that is highlighted by the floor-to-ceiling windows that provide spectacular views of the prairie-like grounds filled with rolling hills that the home sits on. The prairie also has a path that the listing said is perfect for leisurely walks and ATV rides.

The buyer's agent declined to identify his clients, but described the home as a "very specific" custom-built home. He said that the buyers were willing to wait for their price, which resulted in them landing the home.

Miller told Crain's that he acknowledged the home was unique, mainly because of its design.

“We don’t live in a box, I’ll say that,” Miller told the publication. “If you went up over our house with a drone, it would look like you were in geometry class.”
