DEERFIELD, IL — July 4th is quickly approaching, which means it's time to fire up that barbecue and find out what Fourth of July fireworks and festivities are going on near you this Independence Day. Patch has gathered up all the fireworks shows, parades and festivals happening in and around Deerfield so you can start planning now.

Here's what's in store for the village July 3rd and 4th:

The annual Deerfield Family Days festivities kick off on the evening of July 3 at Brickyards Park, 375 Elm St.

Gates open at 5 p.m. and live entertainment starts at 6 p.m. before the raising of the flag and playing of the national anthem at 7 p.m. Fireworks begin around 9:15 p.m.

As of Wednesday, the National Weather Service was predicting a high of 82 to 89 degrees Thursday for the Chicago area, but just like last year — when storms turned deadly on the 4th of July — scattered storms are a possibility. The NWS is predicting a 30 percent chance of storms both Wednesday and Thursday nights — so keep an eye out for weather-related fireworks cancellations.

Events on July 4 begin with a pancake breakfast from 8 to 10:30 a.m., an arts and crafts sale from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and the Rotary Race, also at 8 a.m., with a new route at Maplewood Park.

The bike parade starts at 9 a.m., a dog show runs until 10 a.m. and there will be rides, games and a petting zoo from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The main parade begins at noon and heads from Deerspring Pool to Waukegan Road, then to Hazel Avenue before ending at Jewett Park.

Deerfield Family Days has been organized by local residents and community clubs for the past 56 years. The village's Family Days Commission meets regularly throughout the year to plan the event.
