Police Search For Hit-And-Run Driver In I-94 Shooting

The Illinois State Police is asking for the public's help in tracking down the shooter.

DEERFIELD, IL — Illinois State Police are asking for the public's help in tracking down the hit-and-run driver in a Sunday morning shooting on Interstate 94.

The shooting happened just before noon when a driver who'd just rear-ended another vehicle opened fire. It happened in the eastbound lanes of I-94 near Deerfield Road, according to a news release from the Illinois State Police.

Police say the driver who caused the crash began shooting at the vehicle that had been rear-ended before leaving the scene. Police are still searching for the person or people involved in the shooting, Sgt. Delila Garcia, an assistant deputy chief for the Illinois State Police, told Patch in an e-mail response Monday morning.

"No one is in custody," Garcia said early Monday. "Anyone who witnessed the shooting or has any knowledge of the shooting is asked to contact the ISP at 630-241-6800 ext. 5208."

The driver of the vehicle that was hit, a 65-year-old Ingleside man, did not report any injuries from the gunfire, according to the news release. He was not taken to the hospital, Garcia said.

Authorities closed down all eastbound lanes of I-94 from Half Day Road to west of Deerfield Road for three hours following the shooting.

The shooting remains under investigation.
