A deluge of mail-in votes cast this election amid the coronavirus pandemic — many of which will not be counted tonight — makes this election unlike any in the past. Officials have two weeks post-election to count all provisional votes.
It's important to note, that according to Ed Michalowski, Cook County Deputy Clerk of Elections, online election results do not include 300,000 mail-in votes, 27,000 provisional, 100-150,000 requested, but unprocessed, mail ballots. He told Patch the data scientist team is going to meet Wednesday, and they hope to provide more information about the number of outstanding votes by precinct at some point during the day. This, barring a surge of late-arriving votes, will reveal if the margin exceeds the number of outstanding votes in any of these uncalled races.
