Ex-Bull Sells Bannockburn Mansion To Ex-Bear For $2 Million Loss
Former Bears center Olin Kreutz bought Kirk Hinrich's former house for $2.4 million last month.
BANNOCKBURN, IL — Former Chicago Bulls guard Kirk Hinrich sold his Bannockburn mansion to former Chicago Bears center Olin Kreutz last month for $2.4 million. The home sold for $2 million below the price Heinrich paid when he purchased it 11 years ago. He put the expansive property on the market 17 months ago following his trade to the Atlanta Hawks.
The 9,270-square-foot, nine-bedroom French County-style home was built in 2005 on a nearly 5.8-acre lot before being sold to “Captain Kirk.” It includes an elevator, dance studio, sports court, a resort-style pool, a wine cellar, theater room, a sauna and a six car garage. The grounds also include a stocked fishing pond and mature woods. The home was created by Orren Pickell Building Group, according to its listing.

Hinrich, 37, a Sioux City, Iowa, native, spent 11 years with the Bulls and setting the franchise record for number of three-pointers. He trailed only Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen on the all-time Bulls leaderboard for games played, assists and steals.
Kreutz, 41, nicknamed the "Hawaiian Heartthrob," was drafted by the Bears in 1998 and went on to become a six-time Pro Bowler and one-time All-Pro first team selection. In 2005, he broke the jaw of a fellow lineman after an argument that followed a day of barbecue and drinking at the FBI's shooting range in North Chicago, according to reports at the time. Kruetz, a longtime Lake Forest resident, had earlier in his career broken the jaw of a teammate at the University of Washington.

Kruetz departed the Bears in 2011 after 14 years in the league. He joined the New Orleans Saints, where he retired after throwing quarterback Drew Brees against a wall during an argument with a coach. After retirement, he joined WSCR-AM as a football analyst.

Hinrich purchased the property south of Half Day Road in 2007 for $4.4 million. He and his family subsequently moved to Iowa following the end of his playing career. The property's asking price was reduced to $3.9 million, then to $3.55 million, then to $2.75 million in August.

According to the Lake County Assessor's Office, the estimated market value of the property is $2.37 million. The listing agent declined to comment on the deal to the Chicago Tribune's Elite Street column, which first reported the Sept. 26 transaction.
