Halloween 2019 Activities In The Deerfield Area

Find local trick-or-treating hours and Halloween weekend events.

DEERFIELD, IL — Halloween weekend is here, which means plenty of eerie activities for local families to take part in all the way through Thursday, Oct. 31. Take a look at a quick rundown of some family-friendly Halloween activities planned in the Deerfield area — or add your local event to the Deerfield Patch calendar for free.

Halloween Hoopla
The annual event at Jewett Park Community Center takes place from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25, and from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26. There will be a hayride on both days and an inflatable haunted house, scarecrow building and a DJ on Friday evening, which is free to attend. On Saturday, there is a fee for children aged 2 and up, with costumed characters, games with prizes, a tree house and a craft room. No strollers will be allowed Saturday.

Downtown Deerfield Trick-or-Treat
Participating downtown Deerfield merchants will have an orange pumpkin sign in their windows during trick-or-treating hours from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26.

Special Halloween Party for Special Kids
West Deerfield Township is hosting a free Halloween party in a relaxed accommodating environment for children with special needs from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 at Deerfield Village Hall. There will be games, crafts, treats and snacks. Children of all ages and their siblings are invited to this drop-in event.

Riverwoods Halloween Party
There will be a hayride, a sing-along, music, food, a firepit and a chance to experience the village's police cars and fire trucks. The event will take place rain or shine from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at Village Hall, 300 Portwine Road.

Trick-or-Treat Trail
There will be face-painting, prices, crafts and family fun from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Twin Creeks Park, 225 McHenry Road in Buffalo Grove. The free event is a "no scare zone" aimed at kids up to age 12, who must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Halloween Haunted Houses and Cake-Off
Taste Buds Kitchen's Bannockburn location at 2521 Waukegan Road is hosting a Halloween workshop for those age 2 and up to construct edible haunted houses from 9 to 10 a.m. and a drop-off Halloween cake decoration and baking challenge for ages 9 and above from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27. Tickets are required.

Trick-or-Treat the Library
Visitors who show up in costume to the youth services department at the Deerfield Public Library any time on Halloween will receive a non-edible treat.

Village Trick-or-Treating Hours

  • The official hours for trick-or-treating on Thursday, Oct. 31, are from 3:30 to 7 p.m. in Deerfield, Bannockburn and Riverwoods.

Leftover Candy Collection
The Deerfield Police Department will collect leftover candy from Nov. 1 to Nov. 8 in a donation box open 24-hours-a-day at the police station. Candy will be distributed to such local charitable organizations as Operation North Pole, NICASA, Mercy Home for Boys and Girls, The Veteran’s Closet and North Chicago Community Partners.

Halloween Costume Contest
Pinstripes in Northbrook is holding a costume contest for children and adults on Friday, Nov. 1. Judging for the kids contest begins at 7 p.m. and for grown-ups at 9 p.m. at the 1150 Willow Road location.
