Bannockburn Village Trustee candidate Glenn Morris said he believes in following the Village’s comprehensive plan and pledges to communicate any proposed changes to the public well in advance of any final consideration.

The Village Board recently has entertained proposals which would involve material changes to the comprehensive plan in relative secrecy. These changes include allowing multi-family housing which would completely undermine the current comprehensive plan.

“We have a comprehensive plan for a reason,” Morris said. “The plan keeps the Board and residents informed of what they can and cannot expect from the Village moving forward. That is not to say it can’t be changed but only after exhaustive and public consideration.

As a Commissioner of the Bannockburn Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals, Morris knows the importance of having a thorough public review of the proposed changes to the comprehensive plan. Such review keeps both residents and the Village on the same page of how to move the community forward.

Morris noted that the way the current Board has recently handled proposed changes to the comprehensive plan is the main problem. Examples include dramatic changes that would allow multi-family housing with little or no public notice or public input. What little public input was allowed was completely ignored.

“They knew all along they intended to approve the change but kept residents in the dark,” Morris said. “Any changes should be publicly presented and discussed while giving residents the opportunity to weigh in. We are too small of a community to try to sneak in any significant changes that would impact the character of our Village.”
