Morris campaign priority: ‘Transparency in Village Government’

Bannockburn Village Trustee candidate Glenn Morris has immediate plans for transparency within the Village administration, if elected.
Morris, a Commissioner on the Bannockburn Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals, has seen firsthand the lack of communication and transparency in the current Village administration. He noted that the Village tried to push through a multi-family housing development including drastic changes in the Village’s comprehensive plan, with little notice to the residents.
“In a community this small, it is important that the Village is open and honest with our residents,” Morris said. “Our residents have many choices in where to live and they chose Bannockburn for what it can offer. If they don’t trust our Village Board then many will choose to go elsewhere.”

While the Village maintains a transparency portal on its website, it is important to go beyond what is publicly available, Morris said.
“It is not just about published documents or meeting minutes,” Morris said. “It is about what is talked about behind closed doors that should be discussed publicly. There are things that don’t belong in the public forum but there are others that our residents should be made aware of.”

Morris noted he decided to run for Village Trustee after witnessing the way the Village handled the Beeson’s Corner development proposal and the Allegro senior living project.
“We were kept in the dark on many things and in fact, we were misinformed on others,” he said. “That is not the way to have an open and honest relationship with your residents. This has to change.”
Morris said, if elected, he promises to keep residents informed through ongoing communication, welcoming residents’ ideas and input.
