New COVID-19 Cases Slightly Increase For Last Week In Deerfield

There have 1,646 COVID-19 cases in Deerfield since the pandemic began according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.

DEERFIELD, IL — Like every other municipality in Illinois, the Village of Deerfield has been dealing with its own unique data points regarding the coronavirus. According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, 1,646 people have contracted COVID-19 in Deerfield since the outbreak began. That's an increase of 47 cases since Patch's last report on Feb. 4. For further comparison, there was an increase of 25 cases between Jan. 28-Feb. 4 and 50 cases between Jan. 21-28.

The Lake County Health Department reports there have been 53,299 confirmed cases in Lake County. That's an increase of 821 cases since Feb. 4. For further comparison, there was an increase of 927 cases between Jan. 28-Feb. 4. In addition, there have been 891 deaths, marking an increase of 23 since Feb. 4. For further comparison, there was an increase of seven deaths between Jan. 28-Feb. 4.

The Lake County recovery rate from the coronavirus is currently 98 percent. Recovered cases are defined as persons with initial positive specimen collection date greater than 42 days who have not expired. The Recovery rate is calculated as the recovered cases divided by the sum of recovered cases and total deceased cases.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reports 37,988 people have been tested across Deerfield (zip codes 60015) as of Thursday. That marks an increase of 1,831 tests since Feb. 4. For further comparison, there was an increase of 940 tests between Jan. 28-Feb. 4.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner, 28 people have died due to COVID-19 in the Cook County portion of Deerfield since April 6. The latest death was on Feb. 10.

According to the medical examiner, the age breakdown for the 28 deaths are: 80+ (17), 70-79 (5), 60-69 (3), 50-59 (1) and 40-49 (2).

As of Thursday, there have been 94 coronavirus-related cases in the Cook County portion of Deerfield, according to the Cook County Department of Public Health. That number marks one new case since Feb. 4.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reports there have been 3,866 confirmed coronavirus cases and 492 deaths in long-term care facilities in Lake County. In the past, the IDPH has temporarily removed some cases and deaths on three occasions since Patch has been tracking these numbers, before including them back in at a later date.

Here is a breakdown of cases and deaths at some of these facilities in Deerfield:

  • Whitehall of Deerfield — 67 cases, 3 deaths (closed)/35 cases, 2 deaths (open)

These numbers include both residents and employees of the long-term care facilities.
