Prolific North Shore Architect Built This Custom Home For Himself

RIVERWOODS, IL — The first home designed by prolific North Shore architect Charles "Chuck" Page was listed last month. Page began his career creating contemporary-style houses in Riverwoods before transitioning to his signature French-inspired style. He would go on to build hundreds of high-end homes in the area, with many in Lake Forest, Winnetka and Northfield.

Built in 1959 on 0.91 acres, this four-bedroom brick split-level is located north of Riverwoods Road and just west of the sixth hold at Ravinia Green Country Club. Its 10 rooms include more than 3,800 square feet of living space.

A 2004 addition and renovation added custom built-in cabinetry, a wood-burning stove and a grand vaulted ceiling. The home includes two wood-burning fireplaces. There is a two-car attached garage. The master suite features a screened porch, while a spare bedroom or office overlooks the side yard.

According to a 2005 profile in Custom Builder magazine, Page built new homes for himself every five years, completing the ninth Page Builders show home in Winnetka in 2004.

Typical Page designs were sold for about $2 million in either the French chateau or Regency styles. According to a 2010 profile in the Chicago Tribune, his firm, Charles Page Builders, has employed multiple members of the Page family over the years. Page died in August 2018 at the age of 85.

The estimated value for taxing purposes of the Riverwoods home is $643,287, according to the Lake County Assessor's Office. It was listed Nov. 7 asking $740,000. Local school districts include Wilmot Elementary, Caruso Middle School and Deerfield High School.
