Regional Vaccination Site Opening Soon In Deerfield

The Deerfield Park District Board voted unanimously Wednesday for the facility at the Patty Turner Center.

DEERFIELD, IL — For residents that have been striking out on securing a COVID-19 vaccination appointment, help may be on the way in the near future. At a special meeting, the Deerfield Park Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a facility use agreement Wednesday night with Primary & Immediate Care Solutions, LLC, d/b/a Doctors Test Centers, to bring a regional vaccination site to the Patty Turner Center, 375 Elm St.

The approval comes after weeks of discussion between the Village of Deerfield, the Deerfield Park District, Primary & Immediate Care Solutions, DTC and the Lake County Health Department.

"There's a lot of work ahead in a short period of time, but we're excited about getting this done and very encouraged by how quickly you've been able to do this as well," said Ashley Kalus, of Primary & Immediate Care Solutions, in addressing the board after the vote. "This seems like it's going to be a great partnership."

A start date for rolling out the vaccinations in Deerfield has not yet been established, but officials are expecting to begin in late March or early April. The Lake County AllVax Portal will be used to book appointments for those who are eligible.

"I am thrilled that we are able to increase vaccine availability right in our own backyard. This will benefit our residents and all of southeast Lake County,” Mayor Harriet Rosenthal said in a statement.

Officials said more information about the dedicated vaccination site at the Patty Turner Center will be provided as the logistics are finalized.

DTC is owned by Dr. Jeffrey Weinzweig, who spoke at Wednesday night's meeting. DTC provides COVID-19 tests at numerous locations throughout the region, including O’Hare and Midway airports.

"I think we're going to have all the facilities and staff we need to do this safely and effectively," Weinzweig said. "I'm very excited to work with this whole team on this."

New Weekly COVID-19 Cases See Slight Increase In Deerfield

Like every other municipality in Illinois, the Village of Deerfield has been dealing with its own unique data points regarding the coronavirus. According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, 1,764 people have contracted COVID-19 in Deerfield since the outbreak began. That's an increase of 30 cases since Patch's last report on March 5. For further comparison, there was an increase of 28 cases between Feb. 25-March 5 and 33 cases between 18-25.

The Lake County Health Department reports there have been 55,259 confirmed cases in Lake County. That's an increase of 116 cases since March 5. For further comparison, there was an increase of 505 cases between Feb. 25-March 5. In addition, there have been 942 deaths, marking an increase of 20 four since March 5. For further comparison, there was an increase of four deaths between Feb. 25-March 5.

The Lake County recovery rate from the coronavirus is currently 98.2 percent. Recovered cases are defined as persons with initial positive specimen collection date greater than 42 days who have not expired. The Recovery rate is calculated as the recovered cases divided by the sum of recovered cases and total deceased cases.

Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 1,204,409 cases, including 20,863 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years. Within the past 24 hours, laboratories have reported 89,893 specimens for a total of 18,894,652. As of last night, 1,118 individuals in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 231 patients were in the ICU and 102 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.

A total of doses of 4,488,655 vaccine have been delivered to providers in Illinois, including Chicago. In addition, approximately 414,900 doses total have been allocated to the federal government’s Pharmacy Partnership Program for long-term care facilities. This brings the total Illinois doses to 4,903,555. A total of 3,680,703 vaccines have been administered in Illinois as of last midnight, including 353,125 for long-term care facilities. The seven-day rolling average of vaccines administered daily is 98,166 doses. Yesterday, 112,776 doses were administered in Illinois.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reports 46,202 people have been tested across Deerfield (zip codes 60015) as of Friday. That marks an increase of 3,086 tests since March 5. For further comparison, there was an increase of 1,153 tests between Feb. 25-March 5.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner, 30 people have died due to COVID-19 in the Cook County portion of Deerfield since April 6. The latest death was on Feb. 20.

According to the medical examiner, the age breakdown for the 30 deaths are: 80+ (18), 70-79 (6), 60-69 (3), 50-59 (1) and 40-49 (2).


Walgreens Will Offer Over-The-Counter Coronavirus Test


As of Thursday, there have been 98 coronavirus-related cases in the Cook County portion of Deerfield, according to the Cook County Department of Public Health.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reports there have been 3,971 confirmed coronavirus cases and 512 deaths in long-term care facilities in Lake County. In the past, the IDPH has temporarily removed some cases and deaths on three occasions since Patch has been tracking these numbers, before including them back in at a later date.

Here is a breakdown of cases and deaths at some of these facilities in Deerfield:

  • Whitehall of Deerfield — 67 cases, 3 deaths (closed)/35 cases, 2 deaths (open)

These numbers include both residents and employees of the long-term care facilities.
