3 Cars Strike, Kill Woman Crossing Touhy Avenue After Work

DES PLAINES, IL — A Dolton woman died after being struck by multiple cars as she crossed Touhy Avenue after work early Saturday morning, police said. Fire Department paramedics and police officers got a report of an accident involving a pedestrian around 5:51 a.m. in the 200 block of East Touhy Avenue. They found a woman who appeared to have been struck laying in the road and two drivers on scene who told arriving officers they had struck the woman. A third driver returned to the scene after realizing a pedestrian had been hit.

Eliane J. Marshall, 55, of the 14200 block of Woodlawn Avenue, Dolton, was pronounced dead shortly after 6 a.m. Her death was ruled an accident caused by injuries from being struck by multiple motor vehicles, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Investigators determined Marshall had just finished a shift working at the airline catering giant LSG Sky Chefs, which operates a nearby facility, according to police.

Marshall had been attempting to cross Touhy Avenue when she was hit by a westbound 2008 Ford driven by a 45-year-old Lake Bluff woman, according to police.

She was then immediately hit by two more westbound cars, a 2013 Mercedes driven by a 37-year-old Beach Park man and then a 2016 Honda driven by a 30-year-old Chicago woman, police said.

Police said it was dark with little to no artificial lighting at the time. There were no charges or citations filed as of Monday afternoon, according to Cmdr. Chris Mierzwa.

All three drivers involved cooperated with investigators. Neither alcohol nor drugs were believed to be a factor in the incident, which remains under investigation.
