CBBEL Promotes Darren Olson to Vice President

Assistant Head of Water Resources Department has vast experience in water resources engineering

Christopher B. Burke Engineering, Ltd. (CBBEL) has promoted Darren Olson, PE, D.WRE, CFM to Vice President of the Rosemont-based consulting engineering and surveying firm. Earlier this year Olson was made Assistant Head of the firm’s Water Resources Department, where he expanded his client relations and business development role.

Olson will further his increased client relations and business development role, in addition to his work on complex urban drainage projects, watershed studies, stormwater management plans and flood control project design.

Olson, who lives in Chicago, joined CBBEL in 1998. He has vast experience in water resources engineering and is the Stormwater Consultant for several municipalities including Crystal Lake, Cary, Oak Brook, Hawthorn Woods and, most recently, Lake in the Hills.

Olson is responsible for engineering studies and design that include complex roadway drainage projects, stormwater management studies and flood control project feasibility, design and funding.

He has worked on water resources projects in municipalities across Illinois and Indiana, including the Town of Merrillville’s Meadowdale Lateral Flood Storage Project, the Village of Libertyville’s Stormwater Master Plan, the Village of Wilmette’s Neighborhood Stormwater Storage Project, and federally funded flood control projects in the Villages of Bartlett and Glendale Heights.

Olson is actively involved with the American Society of Civil Engineers, having served in a variety of local and regional leadership positions, progressing to his current role as Co-Chair of the ASCE National Committee for America’s Infrastructure.

He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign before earning his MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
