Subcommittee Chairman Krishnamoorthi Issues Statement on Administration’s Plan to Ban Flavored E-Cigarettes Following Info Unveiled by Oversight Subcommittee Investigation

Washington, D.C. (Sept. 11, 2019)— Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Economic and Consumer Policy, issued the following statement after reports that the Trump Administration will ban flavors used in e-cigarettes:

“I’m encouraged to learn the Administration is finally acting to address the youth vaping epidemic and ban flavored e-cigarettes from the market. My subcommittee’s investigation has yielded more insight into this epidemic and provided irrefutable evidence that pressured a recalcitrant Administration to take action. While this proposed ban is a good first step, it’s imperative that the final flavor ban is imposed in a comprehensive and swift manner and includes menthol and mint flavors which are among the most popular with children and teens. I’m committed to continuing our investigation to ensure e-cigarette companies like JUUL are held accountable for profiting off the backs of American children through fraudulent advertising and marketing practices.”

Today’s announcement follows the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) warning letter to JUUL Labs, Inc. three days after Chairman Krishnamoorthi urged the FDA to evaluate admissions and statements made by JUUL representatives under oath during a hearing before the Subcommittee.
