Des Plaines Could Waive Building Permits in Times of Disaster

City officials are discussing waiving post-disaster fees for building permits, the Daily Herald reports.

In times of disaster, Des Plaines residents may no longer have to pay for building permits to make necessary repairs, the Daily Herald reports.

Currently, business and homeowners are required to pay the cost of the permits up front and the city will reimburse them at a later time. Alderman John Robinson proposed that the city manager should be able to waive those fees if Mayor Matt Bogusz declares a disaster, the newspaper reports. The city council will decide whether or not to approve the idea on June 17.
