Des Plaines Man, 18, Arrested In Fatal February Crash

The Des Plaines Police Department arrested an 18-year-old man following an investigation into a February 2019 fatal crash.

DES PLAINES, IL — A Des Plaines man faces several charges including reckless homicide stemming from a February crash that killed another Des Plaines man, according to a release from the Des Plaines Police Department. Justin O'Connor, 18, was formally charged Tuesday with two count of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs, and one count of reckless homicide after a lengthy investigation showed he'd reportedly been speeding and driving while intoxicated when he lost control of his car, skid into oncoming traffic and hit another car in the 600 block of S. Wolf Road in Des Plaines Wednesday, Feb. 5, police said.

The car O'Connor is accused of hitting was being driven by 58-year-old Kais Shamaun, who died from injuries he sustained in the crash, according to the release.

O'Connor's bond was set at $150,000 (D-Bond) during a hearing Wednesday in Skokie.
