Des Plaines Man, 24, Identified as Driver Who Died in Crash

Authorities identified Gerardo Alvarez-Villalva as the man who died in Saturday's minivan crash in Arlington Heights.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS— A 24-year-old man from Des Plaines has been identified as the driver of the minivan that crashed through a fence Saturday in Arlington Heights.

Gerardo Alvarez-Villalva was pronounced dead at 7:02 p.m. by the Arlington Heights Police Department after he was found unconscious behind the wheel of the car that crashed into a backyard fence near West Algonguin Road and Kennicott Avenue, according to police.

The vehicle was spotted at around 6:30 p.m. when it hit a road median, crossed traffic lanes and went through a fence before striking a tree.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office, the cause of Alvarez-Villalva's death is still pending.

There were no passengers in the vehicle and no additional injuries were reported.

The crash remains under investigation, according to police.
