Des Plaines Woman's Mother's Day Gift Turns Out to be $4 Million Lottery Prize

One suburban daughter went all out for her mom this past Mother’s Day, netting her a $4 million lottery prize with the gift of a winning ticket.
Des Plaines mom Priti Shah received three lottery tickets from her daughter as a gift for Mother’s Day.
“I didn’t win on the first two tickets, but the third ticket more than made up for it,” she said.

Shah used a penny to scratch a $100 Million Money Mania ticket and instantly won a top prize of $4 million, according to an Illinois Lottery press release.
“I think I was in shock when I saw the $4 million prize. After a few days, I went to a store to check my ticket and even when they confirmed it, I still couldn’t believe it was true,” she said.

Shah’s prize will be annuitized over a 20 year period. She will receive $200,000 a year for 20 years, prior to withholding taxes. She plans to share the money with family and invest, according to the news release.
“The next 20 years of my life will certainly be easier,” she said.
The winning ticket was purchased at Gateway Newstands, 4130A North Harlem Avenue in Norridge. The retailer will receive a $40,000 bonus, 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling a winning ticket.
