Enjoy an evening of jazz music at Oakton May 10
Enjoy a musical journey through many style periods in the history of jazz during "Jazz Invasion" May 10, at Oakton.

Oakton Community College’s Jazz Ensemble wraps up the semester with an exhilarating evening of jazz classics during “Jazz Invasion” 8 p.m. Friday, May 10, at the Footlik Theater, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines.
The concert will feature tributes to noted bandleaders and clarinetists Artie Shaw and Benny Goodman. In addition, the performance will showcase clarinet, trombone, trumpet and saxophone solos by Oakton’s talented musicians.
The ensemble is directed by Robert Evans, an accomplished performer and clinician. Previously, he has served as director of bands at LaSalle-Peru High School and Homewood-Flossmoor High School.

The concert will mark the last time Evans will be conducting an Oakton concert after 10 years as an Oakton music instructor.
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here,” Evans says. “Over the last decade, I have appreciated working with so many fine students and exceptional colleagues.”

A pre-concert “Take Note Conversation,” begins at 7:30 p.m. in Oakton’s Performing Arts Center lobby. Led by Evans, the discussion provides background and insight on featured pieces.
