Enjoy Latin-flavored music at May 8 Oakton concert

Celebrate spring with a Latin-flavored musical journey through time and space at concert at Oakton scheduled May 8.

Celebrate spring with a Latin-flavored musical journey through time and space when the Oakton Community College Guitar and String Ensembles join forces for “Fandango!” 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, at the Footlik Theater, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines.

The concert will be highlighted by Flamenco-driven pieces by Luigi Boccherini (1743-1805) and Michael McLean (1952-) and also showcases works by noted British composer Peter Warlock (1894-1930).

Yale School of Music alumnus Tom Clippert, a classical and jazz guitar instructor at Oakton, leads the Guitar Ensemble.

Oakton music instructor and noted violinist Daniel Golden directs the String Ensemble. Golden served as principal viola of Orchestra London, Canada, for more than 20 years.

A pre-concert “Take Note Conversation,” led by Robert Evans, Oakton Jazz Band director and wood instructor, will take attendees inside the music before “Fandango!” in Oakton’s Performing Arts Center lobby. The discussion begins at 7:30 p.m. and provides background and insight on featured pieces.
