Flooding Closes Roads In Des Plaines
Des Plaines police announced new road closures; More than eight inches of rain have hit the Chicago area in just a few days.
DES PLAINES, IL — Police in Des Plaines announced full and partial closures of more than a dozen roads as flooding continues to hammer the Chicago area following historic levels of rainfall.
On Monday, the department updated its list of road closures due to standing water, and emphasized that drivers shouldn't assume their vehicles can safely traverse the flooding, even if it looks passable — since the assumption can easily conclude with your car half-submerged in water. Police advise drivers instead turn around.

- Central Road – River Road to East River Road
- Golf Road – OCC Drive to East River Road
- Rand Road- Golf Roadto River Road
- River Road – Rand Road to Miner Street
- Elk Boulevard - Rand Road to River Road
- Joseph Schwab Road – Miner Street to Algonquin Road

In a Q&A for residents affected by flooding that was posted Monday morning by 3rd Ward Alderman Denise Rodd, residents were encouraged to call the city's 24/7 Public Works hotline at 847-391-5464 to report storm sewer problems and blockages on roadways.
