Man Caught Fleeing Peace Officer In Video Shared On Social Media
The 32-year-old Des Plaines man is accused of 11 charges from July incident.
DES PLAINES, IL — A video showing a man fleeing/eluding a peace officer in his car was posted on social media and has led to his arrest. John A. Gago, 32, of Des Plaines, is also accused of reckless driving, aggravated speeding, improper lane usage, following too closely, failure to signal, driving while license suspended/revoked, passing a vehicle while on the shoulder, loud excessive noise caused by a muffler, improper crossing of a designated median, improper passing on the left, and was arrested and taken into custody on Aug. 3.
According to Illinois State Police, Gago was spotted at around 2 a.m. July 11 by a trooper driving on Interstate 90 at Irving Park Road at a high rate of speed and making multiple moving violations. The trooper initiated a traffic stop on Gago's white BMW by activating the emergency lights on his fully marked squad car. He failed to stop and fled the scene by increasing the speed of his vehicle, according to police.
ISP District Chicago initiated an investigation after learning a video of the fleeing and eluding a peace officer incident was posted on a social media platform. On July 27, after a thorough investigation, Gago was identified as the driver of the white BMW. He was taken into custody without incident on Aug. 3, according to police. He was released on a recognizance bond.
