That day, the release says, Tornez-Sanchez waited in a car outside her home for her to return from a date with her new boyfriend. When she was dropped off at her building, Tornez-Sanchez ran up to her, stabbed her three times, ran back to his car and drove off, the release says. He was arrested the next day in Elgin.
He was held on $2.5 million bond with 10 percent to apply.
Tornez-Sanchez pleaded guilty to first-degree murder on May 24, 2019.
State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said the victim's family will never forget that day.
"That was the day Victor Tornez-Sanchez brutally stabbed to death his former girlfriend and mother of his child. While Mr. Tornez-Sanchez took responsibility for the murder, the fact remains that Olivia is gone forever because of his actions," Berlin said.
"The hole in the hearts of those who loved Olivia will never be filled but with today’s sentence of forty-five years perhaps those who loved Olivia will be able to go on with their lives knowing that the man responsible for her murder will spend the next four and one-half decades behind bars," he added.
