Oakton Hosts Cannabis Responsible Vendor Training Courses
Continuing Education, Training & Workforce Development at Oakton is offering cannabis responsible vendor training courses in Oct. and Nov.

For those working in the cannabis industry or those interested in making themselves more marketable in this new industry, Oakton Community College is holding a two-hour responsible training program (as defined in the Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Program Act).
Continuing Education, Training and Workforce Development at Oakton is offering six available sessions in late October and early November in Room 1457, at the Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Road.
Course content focuses on health and safety concerns, sales to minors, Illinois laws and rules, security and surveillance, packing and labeling, safe storage, waste and disposal and inventory tracking. Training includes two hours of instruction with a one-hour exam given at the end. Cost of courses are $119 for early-bird registration, $129 for regular registration and $139 for walk-ins.

Dates of available sessions include:
- Saturday, Oct. 26, 1-4 p.m. (early-bird registration required by Oct. 21)
- Tuesday, Oct. 29, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (early-bird registration by Oct. 21)
- Wednesday, Oct. 30, 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30 (early-bird registration by Oct. 21)
- Saturday, Nov. 2, 9 a.m. to noon (early-bird registration by Oct. 28)
- Tuesday, Nov. 5, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5 (early-bird registration by Oct. 28)
- Wednesday, Nov. 6, 6-9 p.m. (early-bird registration by Oct. 28)
“We are excited to offer the mandatory two-hour cannabis responsible vendor training for owners, managers, employees, and agents of adult/medical use dispensing organizations,” Oakton Director of Workforce and Strategic Partnerships Ruben Howard II, Ph.D., said. “As an approved Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) Responsible Vendor, we look forward to providing additional cannabis related programming that will support both the industry and the community.”

Oakton offers the first health communications program for college credit that prepares workers in the medical cannabis industry. The Cannabis Dispensary and Patient Care Specialist certificate began this fall.
