Pedestrian Killed After Being Hit By Car On I-294 in Des Plaines

The collision happened Saturday morning and left three others with injuries.

DES PLAINES, IL – A 27-year-old Bellwood woman is dead after she was struck by a car along Interstate 294 in Des Plaines Saturday morning. Kristine Humphrey was a passenger in a red Chevrolet Camaro, which was involved in a crash with a Gold Toyota Corolla on northbound I-294 at milepost 46 in Des Plaines at about 5:50 a.m. Both vehicles became disabled in the center lane of traffic following the collision, according to an Illinois State Police press release.

Humphrey and the driver of the Camaro, Jamal Berry, 28, of Chicago, got out of their car and were standing in the roadway when a Black Honda Accord heading north struck then. After impact, the red Chevrolet struck the passenger side of a Black Chrysler.

Humphrey was taken to the hospital and was pronounced dead later on Saturday. Berry; the driver of the black Honda Accord, John Fliss, 58, of Mount Prospect; and the driver of the gold Toyota Corolla, Adan Cano, 56, of Elmwood Park, were also injured and taken to area hospitals. Condition updates were not immediately available.

The driver of the black Chrysler, Richard Cometa, 47, of Bolingbrook, was not injured.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
