Man Fatally Stabbed On Des Plaines River Trail: Police
Police said the attacker fled in a blue Mercury Grand Marquis but did not provide a description of the individual.

RIVER GROVE, IL — A 52-year-old man was stabbed to death around 1 p.m. on Aug. 8 while walking on the Des Plaines River Trail in River Grove, according to the Cook County Sheriff's Office and the Forest Preserves of Cook County.
The attack happened near the intersection of Grand Avenue and North River Road. At least one witness told police they saw two people walk onto the trail before one of them attacked the other with a sharp object.
A spokesperson for the sheriff's office initially told Patch that "two subjects walked into the forest preserve on a trail and were observed by a witness to attack another subject with a sharp object." The department later clarified there were only two people involved in the incident, and that both the man killed and his attacker arrived in the same car.

"Two individuals arrived in a blue Mercury Grand Marquis, one of them being the 52 year-old victim," assistant public relations director Kathleen Carmody told Patch in an email seeking clarification. "The second individual was observed by a witness attacking the victim and leaving alone in the same vehicle."
The man was declared dead at the scene at 1:13 p.m., according to the sheriff's office. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office did not release the person's name. A Forest Preserves spokesperson initially told Patch the man killed was in his 30s but later clarified that he was 52 years old.

Cook County Sheriff's detectives are investigating the stabbing at the request of the Forest Preserve Police Department, according to a statement from the Cook County Sheriff's Office.
Police did not release a description of the attacker or attackers. Patch has filed a Freedom of Information Act request for more information.
