Roadside Safety Check Announced For Cook County: IL State Police

Here's when and where state police are conducting a Roadside Safety Check.

COOK COUNTY, IL — The Illinois State Police (ISP) District 15 will conduct a Roadside Safety Check (RSC) in Cook County Friday night through Saturday morning, Oct. 18 and 19. According to a release from ISP, the RSC will begin during the late Friday evening. According to Commander Dominic Chiappini, the RSC will take place on the northbound Tri‐State Tollway (I‐294) at the Touhy Avenue Toll Plaza at milepost 41.6, the release said.

The ISP has zero tolerance for impaired driving in Illinois, and according to the release, officers working this RSC will be watching for drivers who are driving unsafely, driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license, driving with open alcoholic beverages in the vehicle or driving under the influence (DUI).

According to the release, alcohol and drug impairment is a significant factor in nearly 40 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois. RSCs are designed to keep our roads safe by taking dangerous DUI offenders off the road, police said.
