ELK GROVE VILLAGE, IL — A 48-year-old Elk Grove Village man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for his sixth drunken driving offense. A DuPage County jury found Nazim Useni, of the 1100 block of Lovell Court, guilty of aggravated driving under the influence, a Class X felony, following a two-day trial in September, according to a news release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.

Useni was arrested after being pulled over by a Itasca Police Department officer at 1:47 a.m. on Jan. 28. He was initially stopped for speeding, according to prosecutors. He could not provide a valid identification and the officer also noticed he smelled of alcohol, according to the news release.

Useni was brought back to the police station where he "showed signs of impairment" during field sobriety tests. A warrant was obtained for a blood draw and his blood alcohol concentration registered at .19, which is well above the legal limit of .08, according to prosecutors.

At the time of his most recent arrest, Useni was on parole for a 12-year sentence after he was convicted for his fifth DUI, according to the state's attorney's office.

“Time and time again, Mr. Useni thumbed his nose at the law and continued to drink and drive,” DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said. “Not only did he get behind the wheel after his first DUI, but he did so as well after his fifth DUI. Every year thousands of lives are needlessly lost to DUI related crashes. Thankfully, no one was injured as a result of Mr. Useni’s irresponsible, reckless behavior. With ride sharing services as prevalent as they are today, there is no reason whatsoever for anyone to drive after they have been drinking."
