Three residents file to run in Elgin City Council election
Five people are expected to run for the four open seats.

Brandon Yaniz, Councilman Rich Dunne and Councilman Terry Gavin have filed paperwork required to be on April's ballot for the four open seats on the Elgin city council, according to the Daily Herald. Two incumbent council members, John Prigge and Carol Rauschenberger, have also indicated that they will run.
Yaniz owns a business consulting firm, and he said the city should treat residents like customers.
Dunne works for the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and he said that he wants to improve code compliance in what would be his third term.

Gavin is an insurance broker, and he said that economic development would be his focus.
Prigge is a professional auctioneer who is running for a third term. He has expressed a desire to control spending and increase transparency.

Rauschenberger is an occupational therapist completing her first term on the council, and said she wants to maintain high-quality services and improve downtown Elgin.
There are eight members of the Elgin City Council. The four other members of the council will be up for re-election in 2019.
