Truck Fatally Strikes Pedestrian On Touhy Avenue: Police
A 56-year-old woman who died after being hit by a truck is the second employee of the same company killed leaving work in the past year.
DES PLAINES, IL — A woman who had just left work near O'Hare International Airport Tuesday was fatally struck by a Mack truck as she tried to cross Touhy Avenue, police said.
Des Plaines police and fire crews were called to the 200 block of East Touhy Avenue shortly after 10:30 p.m. for a report that someone had just been struck by a vehicle, according to Cmdr. Christoper Mierzwa. Paramedics tried to provide life-saving support to a critically injured woman they found there, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Nancy Rainey, 56, of Chicago's Brighton Park neighborhood, was pronounced dead at 10:49 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Police said the 39-year-old truck driver immediately contacted police and remained on the scene until authorities arrived. There were also three witnesses to the incident who spoke to arriving officers. No alcohol or drugs were involved in the incident, according to police.
There are no crosswalks in the area and poor artificial lighting, Mierzwa noted. Rainey had gotten off work shortly a few minutes before she was struck and was crossing Touhy Avenue southbound when she was hit by a 2006 Mack truck headed west in the inside lane..

Rainey is the second employee of the airline catering company LSG Sky Chefs' 200 E. Touhy Ave. facility to be fatally struck by a car after leaving work in the past year. In December 2018, a 55-year-old Dolton woman was hit by multiple cars on Touhy Avenue after leaving work around 6 a.m.
