14 ETHS Students Win All-District Music Honors
ETHS student musicians take home awards and other news from the high school.

Evanston High School students chosen for all-district music honors
Fourteen student musicians from Evanston Township High School have been named All-District winners by the ILMEA (Illinois Music Education Association).
Students chosen for the All-District Orchestra, Band, and Chorus will perform in the Senior Festival at November 9 at Crystal Lake Central High School in Crystal Lake. Students named to the All-District jazz bands will perform in concert at the Jazz Festival on November 16 at Lakes Community High School in Lake Villa.

The ETHS winners are:
- Orchestra—Elena Marcotte (bassoon), Paul Philbrick (timpani), Andrew Santiago (flute), Nicholas Slaggert (trumpet), and Eleanor Goes
Band—Ian Burke (tuba), Rachel Clemens (oboe), and Angela Wong (flute)
Jazz Band I — Eddie Stone (bass)
Jazz Band II—Charlie Culbert (drum set)
Jazz Band III—Lily Finnegan (drum set)
Choir—Annie Kelley, Anand Lal-Tabak, and Hannah Kaplan
Student musicians audition in the fall to perform in one of the nine district-level concerts, which are held in November. Based on their audition score, they may also be selected to participate at the ILMEA state conference during the winter as well as in their district-level concert.

Tickets for both of the Festival concerts are $3 each, free for children under 12, available at the door:
- Saturday, November 9 at 3pm: Senior Festival at Crystal Lake Central High School, 45 W. Franklin St., Crystal Lake
- Saturday, November 16 at 1pm: Jazz Festival at Lakes Community High School, 1600 Eagle Way, Lake Villa
ETHS Chess Team
Evanston Township High School’s Chess Team tied for first place at its home tournament on November 2. The event attracted 7 of the top 10 teams from the previous school year, with 26 teams competing overall.
“The coaches are even more proud since we had enough players to split into three teams,” remarked the coach, Ken Lewandowski. Our second team earned a 3-1 score to tie for third as well!”
Winning individual awards for ETHS were:
- Benedict Brady: tied for third place (Board 2 A)
- Henry McDonald: second place (Board 3 A)
- Nathan Holzmueller: tied for third place (Board 4 A)
- Ian Seegers: tied for third place (Board 4 B)
- Nate Tracy-Amorosa: tied for third place (Board 7 A)
- Taylor Sims: third place (Board 8 A)

ETHS Deans' Canned Food Drive is November 18-22
The Evanston Township High School Deans will be collecting non-perishable food items Monday, November 18 through Friday, November 22. The items may be dropped off in the Deans’ Office during the food drive week. Donations will help provide a Thanksgiving meal to ETHS families in need.
