3 'Tot-Friendly' Parks in Evanston and Rogers Park

South Evanston and Rogers Park provide good options for families with young children.

Tatiana Hauk, a Rogers Park mother of one who is pregnant with her second child, has identified three cool places near the Chicago-Evanston border to take your toddler for some fun and exercise.

In her Chicago Parent magazine blog post, Hauk praises Snyder Park in Evanston and Pottawattomie Park and Leone Beach Park, both not far from Evanston in Rogers Park.

“Toddler-sized toys and Power Wheels cars strewn everywhere” is what makes Snyder Park so special, Hauk writes of the park at Judson and Kedzie. “This Tot Lot is perfect for little ones who are bursting with energy. Make sure to bring along a pack of surface cleaning wipes to hose down all those public toys, if you’re in the germ-a-phobe camp.”

Pottawattomie Park, at 7340 N. Rogers Ave., features a toddler section that is “pretty loaded.”

“There’s also a run-through sprinkler for those kids whom are endlessly amused by water and those parents who don’t mind getting wet,” she said of the park which is three blocks south of the border from Evanston.

But if your two- or three-year-old happens to like fun on the lakefront, Leone Beach Park, at 1222 W. Touhy, is the place.

“It has a great playground lot with the usual fixtures, but when your little one grows tired of playing on the swings and slides (or if you’re getting tired, let’s be honest), the fringe benefit is the beach walk-front which is only a few yards away,” according to Hauk.
