33-Story Rental Tower Would Be Evanston's Tallest
Proposed development at 601 Davis yet to be scheduled for city review.
EVANSTON, IL — Attendees at a ward meeting Monday at the Evanston Public Library were treated to the first public glimpses of artist renderings of plans for a 33-story residential rental tower in downtown Evanston.
The 601 Davis Street plan was first proposed nearly 16 months ago, but the Vermilion Development proposal to replace the vacant lot and bank drive-through with 318 new residential units and 6,700 square feet of ground floor retail space has not been scheduled for the city reviews it would need to be approved, according to Evanston Now.

The developers, whose first proposal for the site was 27 stories, also said they intended to preserve and upgrade the hundred-year-old neighboring University Building at the corner of Davis and Chicago.

Dave Cocagne, CEO of Vermilion, said he hopes to have conversations with city officials before the end of the month to refine a timeline for formally going through public bodies for approval.
