Andy's Frozen Custard Closes Evanston Location, May Relocate
The Springfield, Missouri-based frozen custard company did not renew its lease on Church St. The company said it is exploring new options.
EVANSTON, IL — A popular local frozen custard destination has closed its Evanston location permanently after electing not to renew its lease, the company confirmed in a news release on Friday According to a release from the Springfield, Missouri-based company, Andy’s did not renew its lease for its location at 719 Church Street, which expired on Tuesday. The company indicated in the release that it is currently exploring other locations in Evanston, which could open within a year.
"While it is too early to confirm future plans, the city of Evanston remains near and dear to us as we’ve been here since opening this Church Street location as our second area store in 2010," the company said in a statement on Friday. "We are actively exploring options for a possible new Evanston location that could potentially be open within a year. ln the meantime, we remain committed to serving our beloved customers at our 12 other Andy’s Frozen Custard stores across Chicago and the surrounding area.”
The Evanston location opened in July, 2010 and would have celebrated its 10-year anniversary later this year. The Daily Northwestern reported on Wednesday that rumors of the Church Street location closing began to circulate in February and that a company office manager told the paper that local store officials were in discussions with the property’s landlord regarding renewing the lease for the location. Andy's first location in the Chicago area opened in 2006.
