Blackhawks Owner Buys $4.2M Mansion Behind His Current Home

This August purchase expands Rocky Wirtz's estate in Winnetka.

After winning three Stanley Cup titles over the past six seasons, the Chicago Blackhawks are building a reputation as an NHL dynasty. And if you own a potential pro sports dynasty, no one is going to blame you for living it up like you’re the king of the world.

That might be thinking behind Blackhawks owner and chairman Rocky Wirtz’s decision last month to expand the footprint of his Winnetka estate.

In August, Wirtz bought a 7,350-square-foot French Provincial-style mansion that sits behind his currrent Winnetka residence, a 3,457-square-foot vintage home built in 1923, according to a Chicago Tribune report. The two-story, brick mansion, which Wirtz purchased through a land trust, set back this member of hockey royalty $4.2 million, the report added.

And what does $4.2 million get you in today’s housing market? Here’s a look at some of the home’s features, according to the Tribune report:

  • five bedroom and seven-and-a-half baths
  • six fireplaces
  • a library, rec room, exercise room, media room and wine room
  • high ceilings and hardwood floors
