Warmer weather is finally here! With more community members enjoying gardening outdoors, the City’s Public Works Agency offers a few helpful reminders regarding parkway plantings and trees:
-
If you’re interested in installing plants other than grass in the parkway (the area in between the curb and sidewalk), a no-cost parkway plantings permit is needed. Plants must be 3 feet or shorter to ensure clear sight lines for drivers and pedestrians.

Built structures, such as raised beds and containers, are not permitted in the parkway, as these can obstruct use of the parkway by utility contractors, City staff and pedestrians.
Please be kind to our beautiful trees by not hanging swings, hammocks, slack lines and other items on parkway trees. This are not permitted in the parkway, and can cause stress and damage to trees.
To ensure that parkways are safe and accessible for all users, the City will be issuing warning notices in the coming weeks to alert community members to any potential hazards and obstructions. Thank you for your cooperation.
