Updated Aug. 13:

Curt’s Cafe South saw a surge in fundraising this past week, and has now raised more than $37,000 from more than 130 donors. One person even pledged in the $1,000 or more category.

This still leaves the organizers more than $12,000 short of their goal with only three days left in the Kickstarter Campaign.

Original story published Aug. 7:

Two-thirds of the way through its fundraising period, Curt’s Café South is still very far from hitting its goal in order to open a restaurant to help at-risk teen mothers.

Organizers have a $50,000 fundraising goal for their Kickstarter campaign. With 9 days to go in the 27-day campaign, they’ve raised just under $7,000 from 74 donors.

The current Curt’s Café, at 2922 Central St., was opened in 2012 by Susan Treischmann with the mission of helping at-risk teenage boys and young men, particularly those who had been through the juvenile justice system, by providing work, life skills and hope.

Curt’s Café South is hoping to open in the former Perla Café space at 1813 Dempster. It would be a collaboration between Heartwood Center for Body Mind Spirit, which is across the street, and Curt’s Café.
