Development Breaks Ground at Chicago and Main in Evanston

Chicago+Main will be mixed-use development hopeful for 2016 opening.

Groundbreaking took place this week for a new multi-use development at Chicago Avenue and Main Street in Evanston.

Chicago+Main, a building set to be just under 190,000 square feet at the location, will have “a distinctive presence with a unique combination of a contemporary design while complementary with the surrounding neighborhood,” according to an informational sheet. Designed by GREC Architects out of Chicago, it will be a LEED Silver building.

Included are plans for more than 11,000 square feet of retail space and parking on the first floor, more than 12,000 square feet of rentable office space on the second and 112 apartment units from floors 3-9. One, two and three bedroom units will all take shape in the Riverside Investment & Development Company project.

The building’s on-site amenities will include a fitness center, lounge, second floor rooftop deck and luxury finishes including wood cabinets.

Additional off-site parking will be available through 25 stalls at 935 Chicago Avenue, about one-tenth of a mile to the north.

According to the project’s website, phase one of the construction process takes place from April 13 to mid-June, when the installation of fence and barriers will take place. The project is targeting a summer 2016 completion date.
