Evanston Library Holds 'Get Caught Reading' Contest

Photo and video submissions could win you gift cards to Bookends and Beginnings.

The following is from the City of Evanston:

The Evanston Public Library invites photographers and videographers of all ages and expertise levels to capture Evanston in the act of reading by entering the 2nd Annual Get Caught Reading community photo and video contest. (New this year: the video category!)

We ask you to capture images of people expressing the joy of reading in all forms and in various places from private spaces to public venues. Help us showcase Evanston as a city of readers of all ages!

Entries will be accepted only through online submission form from September 26 through October 10, 2014 at epl.org/getcaughtreading. A submission link will be provided on this page beginning on September 26. The voting period will be October 15 through October 22.

Winners will be chosen by popular vote through Internet voting. Six winners will be chosen: a first and second place award for entrants 18 and under, and a first and second place for those older than 18 years of age in the Photo Category. Two winners will be announced in the Video Category: one first and one second place award, regardless of age. Winning photographs and winning videos will be featured at epl.org.

First prize winners will receive a $50 gift certificate to Evanston’s new independent bookstore, Bookends and Beginnings. Second prize winners will receive a $25 gift certificate to Bookends and Beginnings.

Contest rules:

  1. Photos/videos submitted must be taken in Evanston by residents of Evanston.
  2. Video submissions must be under one minute in length. To submit a video, please upload video to YouTube and submit the link/URL.
  3. All photos/videos submitted to the Get Caught Reading contest may be used, without further notification, at any time, by the Evanston Public Library in marketing and informational materials including but not limited to, brochures, newsletters, social media and web-based communications.
  4. The photographer/videographer agrees to obtain permission for submission to the contest from any person included in a photo or video before entering the Get Caught Reading contest.
  5. The Evanston Public Library reserves the right to decline acceptance of submitted photographs/videos based on content we deem to be inappropriate for public posting/viewing.
  6. Evanston Public Library staff and their families may not enter.
