Evanston Listed Among Top Housing Markets That 'Have It All'
In a national analysis of available and affordable homes, good schools, public transit and low crime, Evanston was ranked 10th.

EVANSTON, IL — An Evanston zip code was ranked 10th in a national analysis of neighborhoods with affordable homes, good schools, easy access to public transportation and low crime rates.
The list was created by the real estate site Redfin, which said only 25 neighborhoods across 80 major markets fit its criteria.
Several zip codes Chicago's North Side made the list, along with cities in Texas, Florida and Ohio.

The median sale price for homes in Evanston's 60202 zip code was $272,000. It had 11 homes for sale as of last month and houses generally stayed on the market for 65 days, according to the analysis.

The places that made the cut had sale prices below the national average, saw homes for sale stay on the market longer than the national average, had above average schools and public transit access with "lower reported violent crime," according to the list's methodology.
Redfin used school and transit ratings from GreatSchools and Walk Score. Crime rates were compiled using the BestPlaces violent crime scale.
