EVANSTON, IL — Restaurants and bars in many Chicago suburbs will be able to open Friday for limited in-person service for the first time in 10 weeks, as those with open-air seating may open as part of Phase 3 of Gov. J.B. Pritzker's Restore Illinois plan.

Establishments with private patios, rooftops, or open-window space where more than half of a wall can be removed may begin offering dining services beginning May 29. Restaurants whose sidewalk cafe permits have already been approved will also be able to open. Approvals of new applications are expected to begin as early as Tuesday, according to city staff.
