Evanston Snake Survives Washing Machine To Be Reunited With Owner
An Evanston homeowner discovered an escaped corn snake in her washing machine after a cycle.

EVANSTON, IL — A local corn snake named Penelope has been reunited with her owner after making a clean getaway from an Evanston woman's washing machine. Surprised to find the snake after a wash cycle, the homeowner contacted police.
Animal Warden Jason Pounds and Officer Pedro Carrasco "bravely and tenderly" rescued the snake, according to Evanston police.
According to staff at Chicago Exotics Animal Hospital, where the snake was taken, Penelope's 12-year-old owner had been looking for her for three days, WBBM Newsradio reported. The snake had escaped within a week of the boy acquiring her as a pet.
