Evanston Students’ Invent Lice-A-Nator, Win Science Competition
The team of first graders from Kingsley Elementary School invented a hairbrush to remove lice.

Three Evanston first-graders recently won a regional science and technology competition with their Lice-A-Nator idea, a computerized hairbrush that detects and kills the annoying insects.

The Kingsley Elementary School students took part in this year’s Toshiba/National Science Teachers Association ExploraVision program, which asked students to imagine ideas for future technologies that could exist in 20 years. The inventions won’t actually be created.
Mackenzie Greco, Margaret Huerta and Nina Kaiser invented the Lice-A-Nator, which uses special bristles and processors to detect the presence of the creepy crawlers and kills them with tiny lasers.

The Evanston students’ invention was selected as one of the 24 regional winners out of more than 5,000 entries from Midwest and Canadian schools.
The students will be expanding their idea and submitting it for national judging in April.
